    Chewy Caramelized Oudh

Posted by Sterling Nichols on May 26th 2025

Pur Oud is a gem, it is an elegant take on Assam Oudh using a cotton-like white musk. There is an element of animalic, but on a scale of 1-10, this is an 8.5. This is a noticeable Middle Eastern oud that has not been corrupted, but leaves room for tolerance. Pur Oud is a perfect starting point for those who have tried oudh and want to continue their journey. You should want to continue the oud journey, as there are various types of ouds and endless combinations using various ouds to compose some really mind-blowing fragrances. I'm talking fragrances using oud only and some with sandalwood or cedar, but no rose. It might be hard to imagine oudh smelling that good, but when you start blending oud from Kinam, Kalimantan, Borneo, Trat, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia, Palua, Papua, Jakarta the creativity is endless. But getting back to Pur Oud, I think this is a great starting point in expanding your taste for AGARWOOD, aka Oudh.

This fragrance is not bad on the animalic factor. The oudh has more of a toasted caramel with a slight earth and spice touch. The animalic presence is raw leather and almond butter. You can also detect a dry coffee creamer note so this is tolerable. Trust me, I have smelled real animalic oud and this is not in the 9 category. This is in the 8-8.5 range. When this dries down, everything changes. The leather aroma subsides and you get a warmer and dry caramel and light toffee scent. You get some smokiness but it is contained by the musk. As the fragrance develops further, it has a little Werthers' dark toffee candy sweetness. With Pur Oud, you need to apply sparingly because it is strong and the projection is intense: 3-5 hours. The performance is not lacking in this composition. One or two swipes will do. This lasts 12+ hours and will stay in your clothes depending on how much you use. If you want to layer it, you can. Try the Misk Shopp's Forrest Sandalia or Tam Dao. For an exotic scent layer, Pur Oud with Misk Al Risala, Goldn Dust, or Eau Rihla by the Misk Shoppe.
